Dystocia frequency and causes in horses with pregnancy disorders or a history of dystocia: A prospective study

Share:

Mares that experienced pregnancy disorders or parturition complications are at higher risk of developing dystocia. 164 mares were followed between 2010 and 2020; there were 207 parturitions. Mares that had experienced pregnancy disorders or parturition complications (n=57) were more likely to develop dystocia compared to mares with previous uneventful pregnancies (n=150; odds ratio 2.98, p=0.0180). The authors recommended systematic birth monitoring.
