Antimicrobial peptides (LYZ and DEFB4B), secreted in response to bacterial and inflammation reactions, may be useful markers for subclinical endometritis in older mares. The was a higher expression of these antimicrobial peptides in endometritis mares (n=19) and normal, younger, mares (n=7). There was a correlation for higher expression of these antimicrobial peptides by age and biopsy grade.
