Airborne detection of Equid alphaherpesvirus 1 (EHV-1) at international equestrian events

Equid alphaherpesvirus 1 (EHV-1) viral DNA was detected in air samples collected at equestrian events' temporary stabling facilities in Spain, Florida and Kentucky. EHV-4 was also detected in air samples from the same sites in Spain and Kentucky. The study could not conclude on transmission risk because the testing was limited to viral DNA fragments and did not isolate infectious viruses.
